Sustainable drive systems

Hydrogen plays a major role in the energy transition towards renewable energies. In the field of reciprocating piston engines, hydrogen has great potential to be used as a fuel in a variety of applications in the future. In a research and development project, the Chair is developing an inlet gas system to introduce hydrogen directly into the combustion chamber of a hydrogen engine. This increases efficiency and performance while at the same time reducing exhaust emissions.
In addition to developing the operating strategy, the chair's tasks also include carrying out tests and trialling the prototype system. For this purpose, the chair operates a high-pressure test bench with high-precision measurement technology and fully automated test execution and evaluation methodology.

The aim of the tests is to fully measure the prototype and develop an operating strategy for reproducible and safe operation in the combustion engine.
